I really really wish our library had privacy screens. In the Chicago Public Library they have them, and they can easily be placed on or removed from any monitor. For those unfamiliar, these screens make the monitors appear to be solid black unless you are sitting directly in front of them. This would solve the problem of 10 teens standing in the middle of an aisle to gawk at a friend’s latest myspace dis. It would also solve the problem of me accidentally noticing things like an old unkempt and very unpleasant smelling man trawling the net for young ladies, or patrons looking at photos of themselves clad in next to nothing (Oh how I wish I could un-see some sights!). Has anyone had any negative experiences with these screens, or is there some inherent reason why more library systems don’t utilize them? Or should I begin begging, pleading and writing letters to the appropriate parties to get some screens for our teens?
Can we get some privacy, please?
